Beginning the journey on May 11, 2011, in the far North of Norway, I undertook an attempt to reach the southernmost point of Africa before next two years pass. During that time I would visit 23 countries and cycle almost 25,000 kilometres.
Where from, where to
The starting point is Knivskjellodden – the northernmost point of Europe, and the finish lies on Cape Agulhas – the southernmost place in Africa. The route goes along the East coast of Baltic Sea, through Eastern Poland and along the main Carpathia range to Istanbul. There it will make it's way to the Middle East, crossing Syria and Jordan to the Sinai Peninsula and mainland Egypt. From there, it proceeds up the Nile valley, eventually climbing onto Abissinian Plateau. Descending from there, keeping close to the Indian Ocean coast it reaches Zambezi river and turns West, to the Skeleton Coast of Atlantic. Turning South again, it crosses South Africa and reaches the destination.
The map of the planned route should be visible below, but just for your own comfort I recommend visiting the full version on GoogleMaps.
Those interested in the actual route are invited to visit the full track record. Because I had had two GPS devices stolen already in Ukraine and Egypt, a significant part (Poland – Cairo and Mut, Egypt – Yavello, Ethiopia) was drawn from memory. This might have caused minor divergence from reality, due to my possible mistakes, as well as the internal inaccuracy of GoogleMaps service.
How
Self-sufficience is a key issue during my travel, mostly due to harsh conditions in the way – especially in Africa. I intend to spend most of the nights in a tent and cook most of the meals on a stove. Tourist facilities would be used occasionally to rest well, and also in big cities where camping would not be possible.
The average daily distance is planned to be around 45km. Some parts I will travel by water, but on the land I plan not to use any forms of transport but my bike (with exception of side-trips which I would gladly engage).
Want to go?
During entire journey I invite everyone willing to join. I would be happy to cycle with others for a small piece of the route, as well as from the beginning to the end.
To make meeting easier, I publish rough timetable with places I'm going to visit and the probable date of my presence there. I will do my best to keep it updated.

This is gonna be awesome, shame you're not passing by Paris, France: beer and accommodation would have been on me ;)
All the best, be careful with malaria and other cool stuf from Africa. I'm just back from Tanzania and I've met a guy who had a hard time there.

POWODZENIA
